Reel Food: Doctor Who Restaurant in Beacon is Perfect for Whovians.

I live in the Hudson Valley, New York area. It’s not Hollywood or New York City, but there’s a ton of fun things to do here, especially in Beacon. Whovians will love the Doctor Who-themed restaurant, The Pandorica, located on Main Street in Beacon.

Owned by Shirley Hot, I interviewed her for a Poughkeepsie Journal article where she explained that the restaurant was originally an English Tea Room. It underwent its own regeneration in 2014 when Beacon went through a revitalization.

“The changes were remarkable, but I had to modernize for the new people who were coming into Beacon,” she said (you can read the rest of the article here). “I just happened to be binge-watching ‘Doctor Who’ and noticed that the restaurant’s bathroom was very solid and TARDIS-like.

The restaurant is decorated with sketches of previous Doctor Whos and, of course, the bathroom looks like the Tardis. Even if you don’t have ‘to go’ you’ll go anyway just to look).

The menu is fun with names of entrees that are a play on various Doctor Who references, such as Gallifreyed Potato Pancakes, Satan’s Pit of Pierogies, Madame Vastra Po Boy, and the Bannakaffalatta Bread Pudding. I never had bread pudding before but did the last time I visited and it was delicious.

I wasn’t hungry enough for a meal again this time, so I opted for another sweet. Honestly, they are as big as a meal and I took half home anyway. I ordered the Madame De Pompadour cake. The menu describes it as, “an elegant luscious cake studded with blueberries and layered with a decadent Mascarpone filling.” It was dee-licious.

I hear you asking — yes, the Pandorica hosts Doctor Who events, including trivia nights. Sometimes they also have very special guests stop by for meet and greets.
